Temperatures came in at record lows last Saturday, leaving us all with the inevitable feelings of how soon the market season will be a fading memory of summer.
This is our last official Saturday market, with our Work Day commencing upon closing of market that day to put all the market tables away for the winter. This final day of market is traditionally our Customer Appreciation day and we invite you all to come down for a final visit before our goodbyes for the winter. In the morning there will be free rolls and later there will be free bread and three kinds of soups: Squash, Vegetable Beef, and Vegetarian Vegetable (all soup ingredients are donated by market vendors.)
There is still a wide variety of fresh fruit available at Market; apples (Fuji, Gala, Elstar, Wolf River, MacIntosh, Golden Delicious, Jonathan, Red Delicious, etc.), Bosc Pears, Concord Grapes, Italian Plums, frozen huckleberries and cranberries.
Farmer Jo will have their apple press for fresh pressed apple cider on site. There are a couple vendors selling hot apple cider with mulling spices.
Also, there are plenty of vegetables available and many storage quantities. There are still tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, onions, garlic, pumpkins, fancy guords, winter squash, peppers, broccoli, and even salad or stir fry mixes - if you come early.
Don't forget the wide variety of crafters and their unique goods which make for great gifts and home decor. After all, the holidays are upon us.
There will be a Harvest Festival downtown on October 24th, 11:AM to 3:PM - one final day of celebration. Vendors will set up their stands in the grassy courtyard, there will be free hay rides (possible pony rides), pumpkin painting, face painting, and music. This will be another great day for the family.
Farmer's Market will have a special market December 6th at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds in bldg 3, 10:AM - 4:PM.
Dehydrating is the removal of moisture from foods to allow for better preservation and long term storage. Though a simple concept at first glance, there are many tricks, rules, and boundaries when dehydrating, making the process a true art.
