Help Us Celebrate Our 25th Year At Market!

Greetings Market Friends!

Have you gotten your tickets to "Feast with the Farmers"? August 10th is just around the corner and if you put it off you may miss your opportunity. Tickets are limited.

Come dine under the stars and chat with market farmers over a chef prepared meal with music and fun. You can purchase your ticket for $45.00 per person at the Red Rooster Craft - Booth 40 (See Jan) or reserve your ticket at the market phone number 772-2290.  Tickets are also available at Wednesday market from Marcia Irwin - Libby's Best Dog Food Bakery.

Check out the market webpage for pictures of past events.

Some lucky market citizen is to be congratulated for winning the "Feast with the Farmers" Raffle.  What could be better than enjoying a fine gourmet meal for just a couple of dollars.

Every year the Feast features live music, a no-host bar and a special menu, utilizing farmer supplied meat and produce prepared by a local chef. This year's chef will be Rod Jessick, who is head chef at the CDA Resort. He will be assisted by Beverly's chef Tyler Schwenk.

This years musical entertainment will be provided by Brian Crain.  The final menu should be settled on and we will share it here by the next newsletter.

KCFM has been approved to accept FOOD STAMPS

Market customers who participate in the FOOD STAMP program will be able to purchase fresh produce and meats and also vegetable starts.
The Market is establishing a token system. The client swipes their card in return for tokens which they give the vendor in lieu of cash.  We are also hoping the State of Idaho will authorize the Senior Food Nutrition Program, bringing more access to healthy foods to the community.

Previously in this newsletter this program has been referred to as the SNAP program.  This verbiage is used in other states but has not been adopted in Idaho.  However, the fact remains that KCFM has been approved to participate in the Food Stamp program regardless of what you call it, and this is good news for many people in the community who have not been able to shop at the Kootenai County Farmers' Market.

Another Pesky Pest Recipe - Pests love the hot dry weather. Aphids are a problem every gardener deals with.  Here's a recipe that's sure to please....YOU!

Vegetarian Lasagna - The sauce is a chunky mix of tomatoes, tomatillos, and herbs. Simmer this for about a half hour. Then mix fresh herbs (oregano, thyme, parsley, and basil) with ricotta cheese and started building layers. First the pasta, then sauce, ricotta cheese, and vegetables, (Use whatever you have in your garden, available now zucchini, spinach, onions, and carrots.) Repeat this so that you have a couple of layers. Bake for one hour at 400° covered and about 15 minutes to a half an hour uncovered. Delicious!
