The Sustainable September Spokane web site will feature weekly digest of the food-related events on the Local Food Track blog.  Here's a snippet from the first one...

The 2nd annual Sustainable September Spokane -
a month long celebration of great organizations and activities, helping our area become more environmentally and economically resilient.

Here’s the web site with a regular blog and calendar of events.
http://sustainableseptemberspokane.org/

Two signature events of the month
for the Local Food Track are right around the corner ... These are intro-level conversations in an effort to invite new eyes and ears to considering food and everyday choices as an easy way to start a more intentional path of consumption.  These events also ask people to remember that good food is to be enjoyed too, not just a way to save the planet.  Invite new people if you can

Friday, September 3rd, 5:30-8pm, 35 W. Main - Fishes & Dishes Cookbook authors and artists visit Spokane!
Listen to their interview on KYRS (92.3) - with authors Kiyo Marsh and Laura Cooper - Friday, 9/3, 10 a.m. - 11:19 a.m.

Equipment Donations Sought for Non-Profit Farm near Spokane, Wa.

People for Environmental Action and Community Health (p.e.a.c.h.), based in Spokane, Wa, is launching a new food system model in Spokane County, Washington State. We are creating a network of non-profit Community Farms and Gardens in the Spokane region. A major goal for p.e.a.c.h. is to use this non-profit agricultural network to produce nutritious, fresh, organic produce and make it available at below market cost to the region's low-income population.

p.e.a.c.h. has secured a 30-acre farm that will serve as the anchor for our Community Farms & Gardens network and as the home of the p.e.a.c.h.  Farm Camp and the p.e.a.c.h. Farm School. Our intention is to convert our new home into a multi-use facility including intensive, no-till organic vegetable production, pastured poultry, a goat dairy, a commercial kitchen, student housing and classroom space.

As we gear up for our inaugural growing season at our new base farm, the p.e.a.c.h. Community Farm at Pine Meadow near Cheney, Wa, we would be forever grateful to anyone who could donate any of the following items:

  • Allis-Chalmers "G" Cultivating Tractor (for conversion into a solar-electric tractor)
  • Baler (small bales)
  • Certified Organic Seeds of Any Kind
  • Chipper/Shredder
  • Fencing for Livestock (goats and chickens, portable or fixed)
  • Grain Drill
  • Hand Tools
  • Hay Rake
  • Irrigation Supplies
  • Lumber
  • Sheet Metal Roofing-Siding
  • Spring Toothed Harrow
  • Swather
  • Uncontaminated Manure
  • Water Tank (1500 gal. minimum, never used for chemicals)
  • Working Manure Spreader

All donations are tax-deductible.

You may also assist us financially in making this vision a reality by becoming a Friend of the p.e.a.c.h. Community Farm. Your support keeps us going.

With Gratitude,

The p.e.a.c.h. Community Farms and Gardens Team
