CLEMATIS, THE QUEEN OF VINES

Clematis are very versatile. Grow them over an arbor or mixed in with shrubs,
up trees, on small structures or try the smaller varieties in pots. They are slow to become established. Give them at least two or three years. Your patience will be rewarded. Research and plant them properly. Most of them like their feet in the shade and tops in the sun. The light, temperature and environment all affect the color of the flower. Some have more than one flower form during a season. No matter what you get, you will be well rewarded by this queenly flower.

By the way, if you're wondering about the pronunciation, whether it's
"clem-atis" or "cle-mat-is," both are perfectly acceptable!

Here is a wonderful video that will give you some excellent ideas on how to use these fabulous vines in your landscape.

ANNA LOUISE
Growing approximately 8-10 feet, this stunning variety offers 5-6" violet flowers with contrasting reddish-purple central stripes and creamy-yellow anthers. Blooms freely May to June and again in August to September.

It is compact, free and repeat flowering, also suitable for growing in a container, on trellises as well as through small shrubs. Blooms June-September.  5-7’

FRAZISKA MARIA

Lilies

We are offering a really nice selection of both Asiatic and Fragrant Oriental lily bulbs, potted up and ready for you to plant in your garden. Being a fabulous addition to the perennial garden, lilies are hardy and multiply over the years. Asiatic Hybrids are the earlier ones, blooming in July after the irises are done. Generally Asiatics grow from 18” to 35” tall. They make great cut flowers. Oriental lilies are the wildly fragrant ones that get quite tall, making a statement towards the back of the border in late July or August. Stargazer is this type of lily, but we have a prettier one: Starfighter. They are all wonderful, try several!

Add a wow! factor to your perennial beds with lilies. Whether you choose the July blooming Asiatics or the later Orientals, you will never be sorry you planted them. They are reliable and hardy, multiplying quickly and adding a dramatic note to any spot you put them in. Consider planting in groups of three or five of the same color for best show. We are offering them as started bulbs in May, $2.50 each for Asiatics and $3.50 each for Orientals and OT. Later in the season when they are blooming in gallon containers they will be $6.00 each. Plant them early for best flower show and quicker multiplication of the bulbs.

ASIATICS bloom in July in Idaho. They are fantastic for pots, beds or cut flowers. We depend on them as a base for our popular July bouquets. They generally grow two to three feet tall, have no fragrance and come in many colors. Flowers are up facing. They do well in pots as well as in the ground.

ORIENTALS bloom in early fall and are generally quite tall, about 3-4 feet, and have large fragrant flowers. These are the big stems we bring to market in August. They are mostly pink, red, white or yellow.

OT lilies are a cross between Oriental and Trumpet. They offer fragrance, slightly downward facing flowers, height, and strong colors. Our Conca d’Or bulb has multiplied to three in a few years, and has strong, four-foot stems with clusters of delightfully fragrant flowers that you can smell from across the yard.

Notes: Lilies are highly poisonous to cats. Unfortunately, deer really like them, but if you have a deer problem you could keep lilies in pots on your deck.

Plant lilies deep as they root on the stem as well as below the bulb. Amend the soil with organic fertilizers and compost. Do not plant in a wet spot, just normal moisture is best. Lilies can be moved yearly without damage or loss of bloom.
